Cleaning Your Wicker Garden Furniture
April 26th, 2010
Is your outdoor wicker garden furniture dirty and need of a good cleaning? Cleaning this furniture is easy and not complicated. In fact, it is pretty much common sense. If you keep your wicker furniture outdoors all of the time then you need to clean it regularly. The wind, rain, sun and snow can really do some harm. Here are some cleaning tips.
Wash – Neglecting your furniture will shorten the lifespan. Wash your wicker furniture with a wet cloth and mild detergent. Get an attachment for your garden hose that allows you to spray a fine mist. Wet down your furniture and scrub off any dirt or grime. Use the fine mist to remove any left over detergent. Let your wicker dry out in the direct sunlight.
Vacuum – When you are feeling ambitious take your vacuum and suck up debris to help keep your wicker garden furniture clean. This should be done when necessary or once a month. Penetrate the woven fibers with a brush attachment if possible. Vacuuming is usually safe for all kinds of wicker. Just be careful of super duper or industrial size vacuums. You can damage your furniture.
Remove Mold – Sooner or later you will probably see mold or mildew on your outdoor furniture. This needs to be taken care of. Mold and mildew can be harmful to people. Breathing in mold spores or coming in contact with skin can be harmful. Use a solution of bleach and warm water to scrub off any mold or mildew. Use a soft scrub brush to do this as it generally won’t harm your furniture. When finished rinse off your wicker with a fine mist of water. Let it dry in the direct sunlight as this will help kill any missed mold or mildew.
These simple but effective cleaning tips will help add years to the life of your wicker garden furniture. Regular vacuuming and cleaning will keep it looking great and comfortable.
